Ringing up a sale at the POS checkout
Learn how to ring up a complete sale on the CEMAC POS till, from scanning the first item to printing a VAT-inclusive receipt. It works even when the internet drops.
The checkout screen is where most of your day happens. CEMAC POS keeps it deliberately simple so a cashier can serve a queue quickly on a phone or a small counter tablet, with tap targets large enough for busy fingers. Prices are always shown VAT-inclusive (TTC) in CFA francs, so the amount on screen is the amount the customer pays.
How it works
You build a cart line by line. Each item you add creates a line with its unit price, quantity and line total. The running total, the taxable base and the 19.25% VAT portion are recalculated as you go, so you always see where the sale stands. Because the till is offline-first, every action is saved locally first; when connectivity returns, the sale syncs on its own client-minted reference so it is never duplicated.
- Search by name or scan a barcode to add an item
- Tap a line to change quantity, price or remove it
- Apply a discount per line or on the whole cart
- Take one or several payment methods in the same sale
- Print a thermal ticket or an A4 invoice, or send it on WhatsApp
Selling step by step
- Open the POS / checkout screen from the main menu.
- Add products by typing part of the name, tapping a favourite tile, or scanning the barcode with the device camera.
- Adjust the quantity with the plus and minus buttons, or type it directly for large counts.
- If needed, apply a discount: tap the line for a per-item reduction, or use the cart discount for a whole-basket rebate.
- Optionally attach a customer to the sale so it counts toward their loyalty points.
- Tap Pay, choose the payment method (cash, MTN MoMo, Orange Money or a split), and enter the amount tendered.
- Confirm the payment. The sale is now immutable and hash-chained.
- Print the receipt (58/80mm thermal or A4) or share it on WhatsApp, then start the next sale.
A completed sale cannot be edited or deleted — it is locked into the hash chain for OHADA compliance. If you made a mistake, record a separate return or corrective sale rather than trying to alter the original.
Common errors and how to fix them
| Message / symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Item not found when searching | The product is not in the catalogue, or is out of stock and hidden | Add or activate the product in Products first, then return to the till |
| Total does not match what you expected | A line discount or a wrong quantity was entered | Tap the line to review its quantity, unit price and discount, then correct it |
| Pay button does nothing | The cart is empty or a line has a zero quantity | Make sure at least one line has a quantity of one or more before paying |
| Amount tendered is less than the total | Cash entered is below the amount due | Enter the correct cash amount, or add a second payment method to cover the balance |
| Sale seems stuck as not synced | The device is offline | This is normal — the sale is saved locally and will sync automatically when the connection returns |
Common questions
Can I sell without internet?
Yes. The till is offline-first. Sales are saved on the device and sync automatically once you are back online, without ever being duplicated.
How is VAT calculated?
Prices are entered VAT-inclusive at the default 19.25% rate. The till shows the taxable base and the VAT portion for each sale automatically.
Can I attach a customer to a sale?
Yes. Attaching a customer links the sale to their profile and credits their loyalty points, and lets you print a detailed invoice with their information.
