Devices and pairing
Pair a new phone or tablet by scanning a QR code from an already signed-in device, then sell from both.
One till is fine until the queue grows. CEMAC POS lets you run the same shop on several phones or tablets at once — a second cashier point, a tablet at the counter, a manager phone in the back. Pairing a new device takes seconds and needs no typing of passwords on the new screen.
How it works
Pairing uses a QR code shown on the device that wants to join. An already signed-in, trusted device scans that code and approves the new device onto the shop. Because the signed-in device does the approving, the new phone never needs the account password typed into it — safer at a busy counter.
New device Signed-in device | shows QR -----------> scans QR | | | <----- approves ----------| | | paired & ready confirms in Devices list
- The new device displays a one-time QR code and waits.
- A signed-in device opens the scanner and reads it.
- The signed-in device confirms, and the new device joins the shop.
Pair a second device
- On the NEW phone or tablet, open CEMAC POS and choose Pair this device. A QR code appears.
- On a device that is ALREADY signed in, open Settings, then Devices, then Scan to pair.
- Point the signed-in device at the QR code on the new screen.
- Confirm the pairing when prompted. The new device joins the shop and is ready to sell.
- Name the new device (for example Counter tablet) so you recognise it in the list.
The QR code is one-time and short-lived. If it expires before you scan it, reopen Pair this device to show a fresh one.
Managing devices
The Devices list shows every paired phone and tablet, with its name and last activity. If a device is lost, sold, or no longer used, remove it from the list — it can no longer sell for the shop after that. Removing a device does not touch the sales it already made; those stay in your records.
Common errors and how to fix them
| Message / symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| QR code expired | The code timed out before it was scanned. | On the new device, reopen Pair this device to generate a fresh code, then scan promptly. |
| Scanner will not read the code | Dim screen, glare, or camera too far away. | Raise the screen brightness, steady the phone, and hold it a hand-span from the code. |
| Camera permission denied | The signed-in device blocked camera access. | Allow camera access for CEMAC POS in the device settings, then try Scan to pair again. |
| New device shows old data | It paired but has not finished the first sync. | Keep it online a moment; pull to refresh. Products and customers fill in once sync completes. |
| Removed device still open | The app was already running when it was removed. | It cannot start a new sale; have it sign in again, where it will be refused until re-paired. |
Common questions
How many devices can I pair?
Add the devices your shop needs — several tills, a back-office tablet, a manager phone. They all share the same live shop data.
Do all devices need internet?
No. Each device sells offline and syncs when a connection returns, so a weak network never stops the queue.
Is pairing safe on public Wi-Fi?
Yes. Approval happens on your already-trusted device, and the QR code is one-time, so no password is exposed on the new screen.
